Why You Should Be an Electronics Technician – Communications

There are a few things which are highly important no matter what branch of the military you operate under and what kind of environment you find yourself operating in. Communication is always among the top of the list as being one of the most important things to the United States Navy and other branches of the military. This is why it is important that the submarines used in the US Navy are able to keep in contact with the rest of the fleet.

The Work You Will Do

When you work as an electronics technician – communications you will be in charge of making sure that all electronic systems used for communications are properly maintained including regularly scheduled maintenance as well as troubleshooting problems as needed. You will work in a shop-like atmosphere to complete all of the work that you have on a daily basis.

Getting on Board

In order to get the rating, you will need to work on board the submarine. This involves being able to obtain a Top Secret security clearance as well as not being a woman. You will have to be a US Citizen as well as have regular hearing and color perception. You will also have to go through Basic Enlisted Submarine School (BESS) for four weeks and Submarine Learning Center for eighteen weeks.
