The US Navy sent a stern letter of Reprimand to Navy Capt. James Paulsen, commander of Carrier Air Wing One at Oceana Naval Air Station. It seems the Captain drifted just a little too far, and ended up in Venezuelan airspace in May. He remains in command of the air wing. The letter was issued by Adm. Jonathan Greenert, after reviewing reports of an investigation an investigation into the May 17 incident. Paulsen was flying an S-3B Viking, which the Navy once described as its premier surveillance and precision-targeting aircraft
Captain James Paulsen said earlier; “Carrier Air Wing 1 continues to provide flexible and effective support for the ISAF ground forces,. “Whether we operate from land or sea, the Enterprise Strike Group team is helping to set the conditions for security and stability in the region.” Since their arrival in the northern Arabian Sea, Enterprise-based aircraft have focused their efforts on protecting ISAF ground forces near Kandahar and have flown 58 sorties in support of Operation Medusa and Operating Enduring Freedom.
