Sailors And Marines Treated To Visit From Two UFC Fighters
In the last 10 to 15 years the sport of Ultimate Fighting has grown in popularity, and it has become one of the most popular individual fighting sports internationally. Two of the highest ranked UFC fighters recently visited the crew and sailors on the USS Peleliu.
Former middleweight Champion Rich Franklin and former heavyweight champion Tim Sylvia came aboard and signed autographs, and gave interviews and visited with the crew. Both of the men are supportive citizen patriots, and they both said they enjoyed their time aboard.
Each of them made a point to greet and visit with sailors and Marines on the ship’s mess decks and berthing areas, visiting different areas of the ship to meet as many of the personnel on board ship as possible.
The Marine Corps soldiers especially were receptive to the visitors, as one of the elements that US Marines are taught is close hand to hand combat. This includes Martial arts fighting styles, and the different types of fighting that are used in the UFC are ones that the Marines in some cases use also.
The men of the US Marine 15 Marine Expeditionary Unit were enthusiastic about the visiting UFC fighters, and were thrilled in many cases to be able to meet and interact with the UFC fighters.
