The Piracy Continues

With this modern day and the advances made in science and progress around the world, it is hard to believe that in some areas around the world piracy is still happening. Yet several times of late there have been incidents where pirates have hijacked ships and have taken off with them, despite the obvious insanity of commandeering a ship in the middle of areas patrolled by some of the world’s most advanced navies. In fact, with the addition of the “Sirius Star”, this is the seventh ship the Somali pirates have stolen recently. Furthermore, their latest acquisition is a crude oil supertanker worth over 100 million. The Navy has expressed they will not be sending ships at this time and instead will wait on international movement before any further actions will be taken. Considering that one recent ships hijacked by pirates ended up with both the pirates and the ship being blown out of the water, this recent move by the pirates is rather questionable. Regardless of how this particular event will unfold, the worlds navies and especially the US Navy will be increasing their response when dealing with these events to protect the waters and shipping lanes.
