The Navy Raises Environmental Awareness

Leading by example, the U.S. Navy has begun educating the youths of Guatemala in the hopes of raising environmental awareness and the impact that each human being has on this world and its ecosystem. The U.S. Navy gave 250 “International Year of the Reef 2008″ posters to students to show how important it is to protect the reefs of the world in order to preserve them for the ecosystem and for future generations. Many of the students are able to visit these reefs as they are almost on their doorstep, but the rest of the world has to see them through digital videos, trips, or by way of the posters. The Guatemalans are in a prime location to understand the importance of our reefs and to make a difference by sharing this knowledge with others. By offering them the knowledge and tools they need, it is possible to assist them in protecting the environment, which is what the U.S. Navy hopes to do by inspiring science students there to make a difference. There is strong sentiment in believing the people of Guam are ready and willing to make a difference for our world and nature.
