Chief Of US Navy Operations Welcomes Chiefs In Ceremony
Every year there are members of the US Navy that are first class petty officers that take the advancement exam for Chief Petty Officer and when they pass they are advanced to the rank of E-7, Chief Petty Officer.
Recently, the CNO, Chief of Naval Operations, Admiral Gary Roughead welcomed the new members of the Chief Petty Officers to the US Navy fleet at the Washington DC US Naval yard, on September 16th.
The CNO spoke for nearly an hour about the unique leadership provided by Chief Petty officers, and their importance to the fleet. He spoke of the difference between the different Naval forces around the world, and how the United States is different because of its CPO Chief Petty Officers and their Service.
The CNO talked about how the United States has the Chief Petty officer rank, and other Navy forces do not, and the different advantages that the United States appreciates from their service to their country.
US Navy Chief Petty officers have a number of different contributions to the Navy Fleet that makes them unique, and it makes the US Navy the greatest warfighter Naval force in the world.
“As you assume your new Chief Petty Officer duties take note that it is your job, and duty to mentor, lead and to serve,” said CNO Roughead. “When you become a CPO it is the greatest achievement that an enlisted soldier can achieve and it’s a day your families and you will never forget,” said CNO Whitehead.
