The Benefit of Convenient Options
Active-duty and Navy Reservists are eligible for the Navy’s Family Housing Program. They can avail of either Government-provided Quarters (if available), or BAQ (Basic Allowance for Quarters) and VHA (Variable Housing Allowance) to meet a significant percentage of the costs of alternative housing in the civilian community.
The Benefit of Housing Surveys
Although the Family Housing Program is managed and owned by the US Navy, the primary policy is largely dependent on the status of civilian housing, particularly in areas near naval installations and bases. This is why the Navy conducts a detailed survey every year. They do so to evaluate the suitability of housing near its installations, and bases, specifically, rental units which are vacant at the time.
The Benefit Of Affordable Quality
In order to provide its personnel with rented civilian housing units that are of acceptable quality standards, as well as practical and affordable, the US Navy applies certain criteria before final selection. This includes such factors as sound overall structural quality; uninterrupted supply of hot and cold running water; fully equipped bathrooms; flushable toilets; effective heating/cooling systems; safe and stable power supply; and appropriate number of bedrooms which are suitable for different family sizes.
