Making a Real Difference: The US Navy Law Enforcement Career

If you are interested in a career in law enforcement, US Navy training can help you transition into any similar civilian job. Your training will include basic military training through advanced schooling to learn law enforcement techniques. The Navy can teach you skills you’ll need if you plan to pursue a law enforcement career in the private sector or work toward a degree.

Law Enforcement Duties in the US Navy

As a law enforcement officer in the US Navy, you will provide security for facilities and visiting officials, enforce regulations, operate prison facilities, handle and train drug and explosive detecting dogs, or become a security advisor. You may also be responsible for training other personnel in safety and security measures or conduct criminal investigations involving Navy personnel or investigate crimes which take place on Navy property. Other duties may include crowd control or conducting crime prevention programs.

US Navy Training in a Civilian Career

The military law enforcement training provided by the US Navy teaches you self-discipline, professionalism, and leadership, all of which can help you find a job in the private sector. This training will serve you well in a career as a police officer, corrections officer, security analyst, or private investigator. Your Navy training may also count as credits toward an associate’s or bachelor’s degree in law enforcement.
